CBT is a psychotherapeutic approach that aims to solve problems by helping patients to understand the thoughts and feelings that lead to the potentially damaging behaviours.

CBT is particularly effective for treating depression, anxiety, phobias and addiction but has a range of other uses.

It is generally considered to be a short-term option and is aimed at helping patients function better in the here and now.
